An Electric Car Arrives In Europe With a Battery That Does Not Degrade In 100,000 km

The market of electric vehicles is growing unabated in Europe, but there are still drivers who are reluctant to get on the electric train. Some of the reasons are that prices are through the roof compared to combustion cars, that the autonomy is still limited, or that the charger network leaves a lot to be desired. That is why where electric ones succeed the most is cities and on interurban routes.

There is another reason why people are wary of this technology. We are talking about a relatively new technology and it is constantly evolving. And many drivers prefer to wait and see how batteries develop and how this technology advances. Furthermore, in our country, worries much the network of chargers and long-distance trips in an electric car. You always have to think about the next stop.

And here comes one of the arguments that are most heard from those who criticize electric cars: the battery degradation over time. You know, like it happens with other gadgets that use batteries. And yes, it is true that this is not exactly an advantage for the electric ones.

But now the Seres 5 arrives, the first model of Chinese brand Sokon that promises to change the rules of the game. This car, which rivals the Tesla Model Y in dimensions and body type, hits the market in Europe with a battery semisolid which is the first of its kind on the continent. And not only that, this model has a autonomy of about 530 km according to the WLTP cycle, something more typical of premium cars.

In the mechanical section, there are two versions. The access door moves with a motor that develops 224 kW (300 CV) fed from a 80 kW LFP battery with which it achieves those 530 km of autonomy. Above we have the Seres 5 4WD, which delivers 436 kW (585 CV) of power thanks to a block with two motors. Here the autonomy decreases until the 483 kilometers

Although what is really surprising is that the brand ensures that this battery can last up to 100,000 km without any degradation. That, however, makes the price of the car skyrocket. There are still no fixed prices in most European markets, but in the German it is available from 63,900 euros. Soon we will know more details.
