BP and TravelCenters of America (TA), part of the BP portfolio, recently celebrated the opening of an electric vehicle charging hub at a TA site in Jacksonville, Florida, expanding BP’s network of EV chargers in the United States, according to a press release. The charging site is the first of at least 40 set to open at TA locations across the country.
TA said the site features 12 ultra-fast electric vehicle charging bays with 400kW DC fast chargers. Customers have access to on-site amenities while charging, such as QSRs, a convenience store, WiFi, ATM and more.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey to bring new forms of energy to our customers as we support their changing mobility needs, while leveraging the best of BP and TA, and ultimately showcasing BP’s transformation to an integrated energy company. While this is significant, to our loyal customers and guests, rest assured TA will continue to provide the same safe and reliable fueling options it has offered for over 50 years, regardless of the type of fuel,” said Debi Boffa, CEO of TravelCenters of America.
According to BP, it has 37,500 EV charging bays worldwide and aims for more than 100,000 globally by 2030.“As we expand our EV charging network in the United States, I am thrilled to unveil our first of many hubs at TA locations. These sites are strategically located across key highway corridors that provide our customers with enroute charging when and where they need it most, while offering convenient amenities, like restaurants and restrooms,” said Sujay Sharma, CEO of BP Pulse Americas.
In other charging news, in late 2024, IONNA and Sheetz announced a strategic partnership to open “EV Rechargeries” at Sheetz locations in Springfield and Willoughby, Ohio, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, according to a press release. The two companies have committed to opening 50 IONNA/Sheetz Rechargeries by the end of 2026. Sheetz also said that it continues to expand its footprint, with a goal of 1,000 store locations by 2028.
