Grand Canyon National Park has taken a significant step to enhance the accessibility for environmentally conscious electric vehicle (EV) drivers by introducing six fast chargers at its south entrance.
These chargers have been installed byElectrify America, a leading EV charging company that has rapidly expanded its presence, deploying 3,500 fast chargers at 800 stations across 46 states since its inception in 2018.With national parks facing the ongoing threats of human-induced pollution, the installation of EV charging infrastructure at these iconic locations is a logical and environmentally responsible move.
Unlike traditional gas-powered vehicles that release harmful air pollutants and contribute to global warming, EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, as they operate without burning gasoline.
The newly installed chargers at Grand Canyon National Park are exclusively DC fast chargers, offering charging speeds ranging from 150 kW to 350 kW.
The necessity for these chargers is supported by the commentary in the comment section of Electrek’s article on the introduction of these new charging facilities.
“A couple weeks back we actually made a trip to the Grand Canyon. We went to the south rim, but had to skip the north rim because there were really no chargers,” wrote one commenter.“Definitely need more charging choices at all our National Parks. And State Parks, and National Forests. And Highway rest stops,” wrote another.Nonetheless, a third commenter on the article was quick to highlight that these essential changes are already underway, “We do.
But, you might also be surprised at how many already have them. A few places we stopped at on our 2021 EV road trip across the US and back: Mesa Verde, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Mt. Rushmore, multiple state parks in PA, MN… Even my local state park in PA which is largely unheard of outside the local area (Caledonia/Michaux Forest) has a few Clipper Creek chargers now, which pleasantly surprised me.”
