HiPhi Y Makes UK Debut at Goodwood’s Electric Avenue

HiPhi, the premium electric vehicle (EV) brand from China, has showcased its latest model, the Y crossover, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. This marks HiPhi’s third production model and its second to be introduced in Europe, following the launch of the larger HiPhi X SUV later this year. The Y is expected to open new opportunities for the company, targeting a lower price point and higher sales volumes compared to the X, while serving as a flagship for HiPhi’s expansion into Europe.

The initial release of the Y will be in a left-hand-drive configuration, with right-hand-drive models arriving in the UK later. Autocar reports that the Y will prioritize usability, offering a range of approximately 500 miles on a single charge based on China’s light-duty vehicle test cycle. In terms of dimensions, the Y measures 4938mm long, 1958mm wide, and 1658mm tall, making it slightly larger than the Tesla Model Y.

Powering the Y is a 115kWh battery, with an optional smaller 76.6kWh unit. While HiPhi has not disclosed the full specifications of the model, it has revealed that top-tier models will feature up to 331bhp. One of the standout features of the Y is its rear gullwing doors, adding to its sleek design. Additionally, it comes equipped with a front light bar, Y-shaped tail-lights, and a unique alloy wheel design.

Pricing details for the Y have not been released yet, but it is expected to be more affordable than the £75,000 HiPhi X and Z grand tourer models. The company anticipates taking the first orders for the Y by the end of this year.

The HiPhi X, which will be available in Europe before the Y, boasts a large 97kWh battery with a range of up to 403 miles according to the China Light-duty Test Cycle. With a dual-motor setup, it delivers 528bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds. Similar levels of technology are expected to be featured in the Y, including a 17-speaker audio system, a 19.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an internal fragrance system. HiPhi has previously stated that the Y will offer a competitive level of premiumness.

In addition to the HiPhi models, Autocar also provides a list of used cars for sale, including a Tesla Model S 75 Auto, Peugeot 207 1.4 VTi Envy Euro 5, Kia Optima 2.0h GDi Sportswagon Auto Euro 6, Mercedes-Benz A Class 1.5 A180d Sport, Toyota Yaris 1.33 Dual VVT-i Sport Multidrive S Euro 5, Toyota Yaris 1.0 VVT-i TR Euro 5, Honda Civic 1.8 I-VTEC Type S, Mercedes-Benz C Class 2.0 C350e Sport G-Tronic+ Euro 6, and BMW X1 2.0 20d SE Steptronic XDrive Euro 5.
