An international engineering company has chosen downtown Knoxville as its North American headquarters.
VOITAS manufactures electric vehicle charging equipment and provides consulting on electrical automotive engineering operations. It has operations in Germany and Poland, and it has set up shop in Riverview Tower at 900 Gay St.
The company will bring at least 30 jobs, including openings for design engineer, office coordinator and project manager positions. VOITAS co-founder Armin Hager said he wants to employ more than 100 engineers in Knoxville over the next four years.
Hager said he loved the culture in Knoxville after visiting and believed it was an area with a lot of opportunity to execute the company’s vision.
“Knoxville delivers highly trained employees from Pellissippi State Community College and The University of Tennessee, and our centralized location allows us to reach many clients via McGhee Tyson Airport,” Hager said in a press release.
Bringing VOITAS to Knoxville aligns with the Knoxville Chamber’s goal of attracting high-paying, high-tech jobs to the area. Hager told Knox News salaries start at $70,000 a year but can increase depending on experience.
Hager said the company received a $25,000 grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon said the company will help the city add to its public EV charging station stock and reduce its carbon footprint.
