Kempower Chargers Installed Using only Electric Construction Equipment

Nearly a year after launching the Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative (GTI), the group says it’s completed the first DC fast charging station construction project in the US using only electric construction equipment.

Built using tools and equipment from Swedish manufacturers Volvo CE, Husqvarna, and Atlas Copco, the EV charging site was installed at the new American headquarters of EVSE manufacturer, Kempower, Inc., in Durham, North Carolina by a local contractor.

“By working together with construction and rental companies, government officials, and industry associations, we can amplify the impact of our electrification initiatives and pave the way for a more sustainable future for all,” says Dr. Ray Gallant, VP, sustainability and productivity at Volvo CE, North America.

Over on the Husqvarna side, the executives are similarly excited about the project. “The insights we can share from this U.S. use case are valuable for stakeholders at all levels, from policymakers, construction industry clients to project owners and machine operators,” explains Ryan Wesselschmidt, SVP sales & services and GM at Husqvarna Construction, North America. “When we team up with customers and leading companies in the industry, we can drive change together.”

The group says the project’s completion not only proves the feasibility of quiet, zero emission job sites, but also highlights their potential for a positive impact with broader adoption throughout North America. The equipment OEMs provided on-site training and support for the local contractor (EV Revolution), and collected data to document real-world carbon emission reductions.

Electrek’s TakeIt’s one thing to know that electric equipment is out there, and quite another to see it in action. With this project, Kempower is setting an example for its commercial and utility customers and raising the bar for other EVSE installers across the country.
