Taiwan Installs More Electric Vehicle Battery Chargers than EU Recommendation

Taiwan has a higher density of battery charging stations for electric vehicles than the rate suggested by the European Union, reports said Saturday.

With 9,770 chargers, Taiwan now has one public EV battery charging point per 9.1 EVs, compared to the EU recommended standard of one charger per 10 EVs, per CNA. The data about Taiwan were released at a recent seminar organized by the Ministry of Transportation to highlight its green energy policies.

High-speed chargers numbered 2,391, or one for every 37.3 vehicles, compared to one for every 80 EVs suggested by the EU. Taiwan also counted 7,379 public slow-speed chargers.

By 2030, all 11,700 city buses and all government vehicles must run on electricity. By 2040, an estimated 380,000 new cars per year and 900,000 new scooters per year must also be electric, with a zero-emission level set as a target for 2050.

According to ministry data, 3,380 city buses, or 32% of the total, are EVs, while more than 89,000 cars on Taiwan’s roads are electric.
