NFIB Supports Legislation Halting Electric Vehicle Mandate on Small Businesses

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, strongly supports S. 4072, legislation prohibiting the use of funds to implement, administer, or enforce certain rules of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Specifically, S. 4072 prevents the EPA from creating a de facto electric vehicle (EV) mandate that would limit consumer choices and increase costs for small businesses.

“Small business owners believe that businesses and consumers should be free to make their own decisions on which vehicle works best for their needs and operations,” said Adam Temple, NFIB Senior Vice President for Advocacy. “This legislation would stop an EV mandate that would limit choices and increase costs at a time when small businesses can’t afford it. In particular, the mandate would have a significant effect on small businesses that rely on trucks and vans for work such as farmers and contractors. We ask Congress to pass this bill and stop an unreasonable regulation on Main Street.”

NFIB announced S. 4072 will be a Key Vote for the 118th Congress. In a recent NFIB member ballot, 96% of NFIB members believe that the federal government should not restrict the purchase of consumer products like new gas-powered vehicles.
