GM Hires EV And Retail Leader For The European Market

GM has just announced that it has hired EV and retail leader Pere Brugal as the new chief commercial officer in Europe, where the company prepares a new market entry as an all-electric player.

The automaker’s European subsidiary announced the hiring of Pere Brugal for the role of GM Europe Chief Commercial Officer, a strategic new position within the regional leadership structure for the imminent start of the company’s EV deployment in the old continent. Brugal’s appointment will become effective as of August 21st and he will exercise it from the GM Europe headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

“General Motors sees significant opportunities in Europe – the second largest and fastest growing EV market in the world, as we launch the industry’s best and most comprehensive EV portfolio,” said GM Europe President and Managing Director, Jaclyn McQuaid. “We will be launching our EV start-up business in the near future, and Pere will play an important role in ensuring we exceed the expectations of our customers in Europe,” she added.

Pere Brugal is a veteran EV and retail leader with 25 years of experience who comes from working at the forefront of the European expansion of electric vehicle start-ups, with positions such as General Manager for Southern Europe at Tesla and most recently Commercial Director for BYD Europe Passenger Cars. In addition, he is specialized in business transformation and the creation of new sustainable business models – in line with GM Europe’s strategy.

In his new position as GM Europe Chief Commercial Officer, Pere Brugal will be responsible for developing strategic network alliances, business models, product portfolio and customer experiences for the deployment of GM’s next-generation EVs in Europe. Although the company has not yet revealed details of its return to the region, it did say that it will do so as a non-traditional start-up with a line of fully electric vehicles.

“General Motors globally has an incredible history of innovation and today it has a compelling vision to drive the transformation of our industry for the good of our customers and our planet,” said Brugal. “I am looking forward to working with GM Europe to grow our business and accelerate the EV transition in Europe,” he finished.
