Abu Dhabi is getting futuristic – your next order might not be delivered by a driver at all, but by a robot.
The emirate has just launched its first-ever trial of autonomous delivery vehicles, with the pilot project now rolling through Masdar City.
It’s the latest step in Abu Dhabi’s smart mobility push and yes – these sleek little bots are officially licensed with their own number plates.
Meet your new delivery driver (minus the driver)
Developed by Autogo, a K2 subsidiary and rolled out in partnership with EMX – the logistics arm of 7X – the robots are powered by AI and advanced navigation systems. They’re designed to weave through urban streets, drop off packages and handle last-mile logistics without human help.
For now, they’re being tested in Masdar City, but the goal is much bigger: scaling up across Abu Dhabi as part of a strategy to make transport cleaner, smarter and more efficient. By 2040, the emirate wants 25 percent of all trips to be made with smart transport solutions – from self-driving taxis to autonomous deliveries.
It’s not just about tech hype. These bots are expected to cut down on emissions, ease traffic congestion and make deliveries safer and quicker. For residents, it could mean faster food, smoother parcel drop-offs and one more futuristic touch to everyday life in the capital.
Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, put it simply: “This is a pivotal milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey towards a smart, sustainable transport system.”
